Pia Wittwer Blaser
M.Ost, M.Sci, B.AppSc. - Registered Osteopath
Originally from Switzerland, Pia was trained as a scientist and graduated from the University of Bern in 1998 with a Master of Science in Molecular Biology. Upon relocating to New Zealand with her husband and two small children, she was looking for a change in career. Wanting to pursue her interest in the medical field and find a profession that would continue to provide challenges and opportunities for development, Pia chose to study osteopathy. After 5 years of full-time study, she graduated with honours in 2009 from the Master of Osteopathy program at Unitec, NZ. Her Masters research looked at attitudes toward Evidence-based Practice in the osteopathic profession in New Zealand.
Pia has a particular interest in visceral osteopathy, used to treat the organ systems of the body, such as the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive and reproductive systems. She has completed comprehensive post-graduate training through the highly respected Barral Institute of Visceral Manipulation. Another area of focus for Pia is women’s health, which she is currently studying at The University of Auckland. She is also the leader of the West Auckland Osteopathic Peer Group, where she regularly meets with colleagues to further her learning.
As a mother of three, Pia understands the demands and worries parenting can bring. She feels privileged to support women through their pregnancies and early days with babies, and is passionate about helping mothers look after themselves after birth. Pia believes that osteopathy brings together the best of art and science. She loves her work of facilitating health - by starting from a strong background in scientific thinking and then expanding into an osteopathic approach to the whole person.
Pia enjoys time in the great outdoors: hiking, walking, cycling and skiing. She can’t say no to a good book, and music is another passion she pursues in her spare time.
Pia practices from Restore Osteopathy's Central Auckland Clinic in Mt Eden. She is registered with the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand and is an ACC accredited treatment provider.
