Online Consults

Our Approach

Welcome to the world of Online Osteopathy! The Covid-19 Lock-down has fast-tracked many of us into new ways of working, and osteopathy is no exception. Unfortunately we are unable to provide face to face consultations through the lock-down period. We know there is still a strong need for osteopathic services, which has led us to to adapt our approach so we can continue to provide care for our valued clients.

Our practitioners have been rapidly up-skilling in order to provide you with exceptional online healthcare from the comfort of your own home. One of the key strengths of osteopathic health care is it's holistic approach -  meaning osteopaths are highly experienced in considering all of the physical, mental and emotional factors that combine to contribute towards a problem. Osteopaths are also very familiar with creatively tailoring consultations to individuals, rather than following a set protocol. We listen carefully to what you are telling us and ask specific questions in order to gain a complete picture - we can adjust our examination, treatment and recommendations to whatever circumstances require!

The idea of Online Osteopathy may seem a bit unusual at first - it certainly did to us! Although we love and miss our hands-on treatment and seeing you in person, we are very happy to be able to adapt  to the current circumstances. We have formulated clear treatment pathways and are confident we will continue to provide you with quality care based on our osteopathic principles and holistic approach - even when hands-on treatment is not possible, We can give you expert advice to get you back on track - working together to help your body heal, so that you can enjoy optimal health and well-being.

What happens during an online consultation?

Link up - Discussion - Examination - Diagnosis - Treatment - Follow up

Upon booking, you will be emailed a link for your appointment. At the scheduled time, click the link to be taken to a secure video chat room. Once you and your osteopath have both joined the call, you'll be able to see each other. We will explain a bit about how the online consultation process works, and if you're happy to proceed we will then take a detailed case history - just like we do when we see you in clinic. Next is the examination process, where we visually assess your movement and  have a look at the area in question. We guide you through any checks we need to gather more information - for example feeling specific areas for tension or tenderness. Once we have all the information we need, we form a diagnosis which we will explain so that you have a clear understanding of what is going on. A treatment plan is the next step. This may include strategies to manage pain and reduce inflammation as well as stretches and strengthening to get your body moving well. After the video call has ended, your osteopath will write up your notes and treatment plan, and email the treatment plan to you. If necessary, you will be referred to a provider (such as a specialist or GP) should you require a physical examination or further diagnosis.A few days after your consultation we will , to check that everything is on track.

What can online osteopathy help with?

Most of the things that you would usually come and see an osteopath for! Some of the conditions particularly suited to online osteopathy include:

 - Pain management and rehabilitation following an injury or strain

- Postural issues and postural assessment (including workstation assessment)

- Headaches and low back pain

- Breathing issues

- Help with managing stress and anxiety

- Chronic pain

- Babies: latching or feeding issues, turning head just to one side, flat spots on the head, abdominal pain, constipation, unsettledness

What do I need in order to have an online consultation?

You will need a computer, laptop or tablet connected to the internet, with a webcam and a microphone. Smart phones can work too, although it is preferable to have a bigger screen.
If you do not have internet access it is possible to organise a telephone consultation, however video connection will enable an easier and more thorough consultation.
During the consultation we will be discussing your health and medical history, as well as performing a visual examination so it is a good idea to be in a room with good lighting, where you feel comfortable to talk openly and have sufficient privacy.

Can I have an online consultation for my baby or child?

Absolutely. At Restore Osteopathy we specialise in treating babies and children. There will be parts of the examination we will ask you to help us with during the video call. We can help you to understand the problem, and offer expert advice and reassurance. We also have many gentle exercises and stretches we can teach you how to do with your little one at home in order to help them. Safety is our top priority, and be assured that we will refer your baby or child to a GP or specialist if they require a face to face examination.

What about ACC?

Currently Osteopaths New Zealand is working to have online osteopathic consultations approved for ACC treatment. When this happens we will be able to offer lower rates for ACC subsidised consultations. We hope to have this approved soon, but until then standard pricing applies to all online consultations.
